Fees

Lesson fees are: $40.00 per hour

Lessons are to be paid one month in advance, as is the standard practice by most members of the Central New York Music Teachers Association

Most of my students have one hour lessons. For those who are under 12 and at an intermediate stage of development I would consider 45 minute lessons.

Half hour lessons are given only in the rare case of a very young and very gifted beginner who might not have the concentration span for a 45 minute lesson.

In the case of an exceptionally gifted student with financial constraints, some scholarship assistance will be considered.

Policies

Lessons may be rescheduled on 24 hours notice, provided that my schedule for a given week would allow for that. Due to an increase in the number of students in my studio, I do not have the flexibility that I have had in the past.

I request that if family obligations (weddings, graduations, etc.) require the student to be away on the day when they would normally have a lesson, an effort be made to reschedule for another day rather than simply cancelling a lesson.

Students are responsible for planning practice time, preparing lessons, and anticipating the normal routines associated with school. Homework, term papers, and exams will not be considered valid reasons for cancelling lessons.

Obviously, true and unexpected emergencies are another matter, however, in my experience they very rarely happen. The vast majority of lessons are missed because of lack of planning or simply forgetting.

I do require at least five lessons over the course of a summer vacation. I am not willing to work with students who believe that summer vacation absolves them from practicing. Most of my progress as a violinist was made during the summers of my youth.

I expect students to prepare lessons. It is not the purpose of a lesson to acquaint the student with the notes in a piece of music. I expect students to remember to bring their music, notebooks, as well as mental focus. The discipline that is required in musical studies is a great asset in every aspect of a young persons life.

I am certainly open to discussing any of the above with parents and am more than willing to address particular concerns or issues.
